On Saturday, March 9th, CUWRFC took on Rutgers Women’s Rugby and after a hard match with strong play from both sides, the Columbia women came out on top with a final score of 45-27. Rutgers started off strong, scoring two quick tries in the first few minutes of the game to put the score at 14-0 Rutgers. However, CU came back with tries by Peterson (CC ’13) and Cerullo (CC ’13) to tie the score 14-14. CU maintained their momentum going into the half with a try by Leng-Smith (CC ’15), putting CU in the lead 21-14. CUWRFC continued their strong play in the second half, with solid scrumming and loose play from the forwards. Ullman (CC’15), Cerullo and Peterson all scored tries in the second half, while Rutgers countered with two tries of their own and a 3-point conversion from a penalty inside 10m. In a tough, physical match, CUWRFC played together as a team to defeat Rutgers 45-27 in a solid start to their spring season.
