CUWRFC 17 – Hofstra 10

CUWRFC played our first game of the Spring season this past Saturday, March 7th, with victorious results!  Match commentary below paraphrased from coach Beth:

We spent a good 90% of the match in Hofstra’s 22 but failed to dot the ball down (A record 4 or 5 of which were held up…poor poor Nasty G. In my heart, you scored.), and we were ALL (including coaches) a little nervous throughout. So we will just need to shake off those opening game jitters and focus on the basic points of how to handle those situations, as well as getting the rookies a better idea of the field/their role and getting the vets a better idea of how to shift from defense to offense with authority. We will work on everyone’s communication. Tonight was a good starting point for us to build on for the rest of the season that will give us all sorts of skills and drive for the Ivies and the fall season.

Thank you to the rookies who participated in their first game: Courtney, Jewcy (Sophia), Danielle, Liz 2, Sheps, Cindy Lu, and Mari! Well played.  Best get well wishes to Miss Poon the Bionic Alpha Asian (eye stitches), Jewcy the rookie (fractured wrist), and Mari (ankle).

Tries: Alyssa, Juliette, and Remi
Conversions: Liz Logan (1)

Players of the Match:
Forwards - Miss Leda Kimchi Mama
Backs – Erin Glennon aka Nasty G.
woMan O’ the Match - Deputy Pickle aka Jeanette

Season’s Over :(

We had an early start to our league season this year, so unfortunately our Fall season is over!  But don’t worry, CUWRFC will be back in the Spring for more rucking and mauling action, so look out for an update in the new year on when we start practices again!  Remember, we’re always looking for new players, with or without experience.

I’ve also updated our Roster, Schedule and Results, and Photos page, so check them out!

Go to our About page to find out more about CUWRFC, or click on the “Rookie Primer” and “Rugby 101″ links on the left to learn more about the game, and feel free to leave any comments or questions you may have for us in this post!

See you in the spring!

Love,
CUWRFC

Good news!

I have taken the initiative to do something this summer that is somewhat productive, even if responsibility is the last thing that I want to take up right now. Anyway, I think I’ve updated our photos section so our photos are no longer 3 years old.  I’m also working on a potential roster for Fall 2008 based on the roster from the spring, and I put up the new schedule for the Fall as well.

Yay.
