CUWRFC is proud to announce our 2012 coaches: Jodie van Ogtrop, Heather Martin, Koma Gandy, and Becca Gobeille. Jodie will be taking over as Head Coach, and will continue the work she has been doing for the past year with the backline. Heather, Koma, and Becca together will take on the Columbia pack, and we look forward to creating a more united and capable front with the aid of their skill and know-how. Jodie, Heather, and Koma are past or present members of the inspiring New York women team, and we are honored to have their expertise for the coming season.

The Columbia Women would also like to thank Becca Gobeille, who will be stepping down from the Head Coach position this coming spring. We appreciate the remarkable work that Becca has put into CUWRFC, and we know we are a better team for her dedication, time, and skill. Thank you so much, Becca. We cannot express the weight of our gratitude.

Score: 32-0. Tries: Izzy Cerullo, Juliette Conte
CUWRFC v. Met NY U19 Select Side
Score: 29-12. Tries: Jodie van Ogtrop, Savannah Woods, Izzy Cerullo, Juliette Conte
CUWRFC v. NYRC Orange U19s

Final Score: Columbia: 28, Yale: 22.

CU Tries: Bianca Rahill-Marier (1), Izzy Cerullo (3)
CU Conversions: Izzy Cerullo (4)

Forward of the Match: Sam Peltz #4
Back of the Match: Bianca Rahill-Marier #13
Player of the Match: Trinidad Reyes #3

In the last official match of the season, CUWRFC prevailed against Yale in a closely-matched game, winning 28-22. The Columbia women played their best game of the season, with unbelievable defense in rucks, numerous mauls, and very strong and stable scrums. Tackles by all members of the team have vastly improved. CU held up the ball during attempted Yale tries numerous times. Overall, Columbia was a force to be reckoned with defensively, shutting Yale down for much of the game – especially in the second half.

On offense, CUWRFC’s play was unparalleled by any previous performance this season. Cerullo and Rahill-Marier scored on brilliant break-away runs, and all four tries were the cumulative effort of all fifteen players on the field. Forward punches were successful numerous times, crucial to the movement of the ball towards the Yale try-line. Backline performance was superb. CUWRFC’s game was the combination of all the effort the Columbia women have put in all season, resulting in a brilliant conclusion to the official season.

The victory was truly a team effort – fought hard for by all fifteen players on the field, their teammates on the sidelines, and the coaches. CUWRFC is quite proud of its first Ivy League win, and hopes the victory will propel the team through the off-season and beyond.

CUWRFC looks forward to next year’s play in the Ivy League. This season, CUWRFC has gained critical experience, and upped the team’s playing level to new heights. The Columbia women are excited for a winter of fitness and skill improvement, as well as a spring of friendly matches and tournaments.

Check out an extended write-up of the game here, and stay tuned for more information regarding 7′s tournaments later this fall!
