Hey ruggers!
So we are getting the season started with some casual touch rugby out on the Columbia South Lawns this Tuesday, September 8th, (EDIT!!) at 6PM. Meet at the Columbia sundial (the big round thing between the steps and Butler Library, on College Walk) at 6PM if you’re interested. Come out to get to know a little bit more about rugby and meet some of our friendly players. You can join in and try it out or just watch and learn!
Once you’ve gotten a feel for the game, come out to our first official practice this Wednesday, September 9th. Meet us at the Columbia sundial (see above) at 7:45PM to get ready to go up to Baker Field for an 8:30-10:30PM practice. Remember, you don’t need any experience to play, we’ll walk you through everything!
Things you’ll need for Wednesday:
Sneakers, or cleats if you have them
Athletic/sports clothes (shorts, t-shirt)
Water
Mouthguard (if you have one)
Metrocard
One last thing: our regular season practice days and times are Mondays and Wednesdays, 8:30-10:30PM.
See you on Tuesday! – CUWRFC
Welcome to Fall 2009!

CUWRFC welcomes back our returning players, and also gives a big welcome to the Columbia College, SEAS, and Barnard Class of 2013! We know that there is a lot of great talent out there, with potential to play amazing rugby, so come on out and join us! There is absolutely no experience necessary and it’s never too late in the season to join, all you need is a little curiosity about the sport and the willingness to jump right in and learn.
Look out for CUWRFC at the upcoming Activities Fair, but also on Facebook, so that we can contact you with up-to-date details about our practices and events. The Fall season starts soon, so check back to find out more about practice dates and times. Our league schedule is up on the Schedule and Results page, and feel free to check out our photos. Should you have any questions or worries at all, please don’t hesitate to contact us for more information.
See you soon!

A line-out against Dartmouth at the Ivy League Tournament, Spring 2008.

CUWRFC gives a big cheer before a match during the Ivy League Tournament, Spring 2008.
I’m presenting TWO photos of the week this week, which are for Courtney and Alyssa – our fantastic lock and inside center who are currently recovering from or about to go through ACL surgery!!! We wish them full recovery and to get well soon, of course! Thanks Beth for the photos.

Courtney taking a great breakaway run against TCNJ (The College of New Jersey) and gains some ground, Spring 2009.

Above, Alyssa as 8-man against Stony Brook, punching through two opposing players, Fall 2008.

That’s right, I’m going to start doing a CUWRFC “Photo of the Week” during all my useless summertime.
Above, our great fullback Nicole Humphrey taking out a GWU player with a serious tackle, Spring 2009. You go girl.
This post is really late, but thanks to all the alumni who came out to Randall’s Island for a friendly 7’s match during the NY Women’s Friends and Family Day! It started a little cold and drizzly but turned out to be a beautiful and sunny day, great weather for rugby-watching!
Unfortunately there are no photos of the actual game, but check out our photos page to see some alumni and current CUWRFC women having fun and watching rugby! Thanks to Becca for all the photos!
The score? CUWRFC 0 – Alumni too many

Another win for CUWRFC as we close our Spring Season!
